Sightseeing in Kiama, New South Wales Australia

Australia offers fascinating attractions of nature’s wonder. Just about 120 kilometers South of Sydney in New South Wales Australia is the town of Kiama, a famous place for its wonderful views and breath-taking tourist interests. Kiama began as a farming town due to its rich volcanic soil and year round pleasant climate. Today, the volcanic history of the town has created a mecca for tourism and Kiama sightseeing. The most well-known of these attractions are the Kiama Blow Hole, and the Little Blow Hole.  Others include: great surfing beaches, Budderoo National Park, the Minnamurra River, the Catherdral Rocks, and the Saddleback Mountain Lookout.

Kiama Blow Hole and Little Blow Hole
On the edge of town, south of the harbor, lies a deep volcanic sea cave in a cliff wall. As the ocean thunders in to the cave, an amazing water spray occurs which can reach up to 25 meters (82ft) in the air. This is known as the Kiama Blow Hole and it attracts 600,000 tourists per year. This is not the only blow hole in town, however, the Little Blow Hole is located just a few minutes drive south of the main blow hole. The Little Blow Hole is actually more reliable and can be equally fantastic to watch. While on Blow Hole Point, be sure to see Kiama Harbor Light, the towns working Lighthouse.

Surfing Beaches
Many surfing competitions are held on Kiama beaches every year due to the excellent variety of surfing conditions available. If you are in to surfing, be sure to check out Jones Beach, formerly known as Boyd’s Beach, located just 5 minutes north of town. Jones Beach is a 2-3km natural beach with 6 access points. From the southern point of the beach you can see the spectacular natural rock formation known as the Cathedral Rocks. The beach is patrolled by lifeguards and has toilets and showers available. Other popular beaches include Bombo Beach, Surf Beach, Easts Beach, Caravan Park, Kendall’s Beach, and Mystics Beach on the Minnamurra River. The mouth of the Minnamurra River is known for heavy surf conditions as the river water meets the sea.

Budderoo National Park
Experience nature’s wonder as you walk along the timber boardwalk through the Minnamurra Rainforest in Budderoo National Park. As you go along, you’ll see  the captivating beauty of Minnamurra Falls located at the Minnamurra Rainforest Center. Take time to witness the amazing landscape as you soak up the rainforest canopy at the viewing platforms of Minnamurra Falls. For bird lovers, the park is also a home to many species including endangered Eastern Bristlebirds, Pilotbirds and Rockwarblers.

Saddleback Mountain Lookout
Spectacular views are available just 7 kms south-west of Kiama. At an altitude of 600m above sea level is the Saddleback Mountain Lookout which offers a panoramic view of the Australian country-side surrounding Kiama. It also encompasses a 60 minute hiking trail which provides an unforgettable hiking experience through the Australian bush.

As you can see, Kiama is truly full of wonders to explore. These are only a few of the many more sightseeing destinations Kiama has to offer. Kiama captivates the heart of the tourist from the beaches to the mountains to the rainforests. Kiama is one destination you don’t want to miss!
